I've been checking social media, seeing what folks are saying about Trump's announcement that the U.S. is pulling out of the Paris Agreement. Most of what I've heard is condemnation of Trump and his announcement. And that is very appropriate. It is something that I can't describe as anything other than stupid.
Yet there is lots of hope and lots of opportunity. In an open letter to the president 61 mayors of U.S. cities pledged to meet the commitments of the Paris Accord. Admittedly, these are mayors, and what they can do in their municipalities is limited, but 61 is a lot of cities, and the political weight of what they are doing is significant, once you consider that among the 61 are Los Angeles, Pittsburgh, and New York. That's a big deal. And that's not all. The states of Washington, California, and New York say that they are remaining in the emissions reduction pact. Connecticut and Virginia may join as well.

I don't live in South Park but do share the planet and local area with the membership. I am committed to salvaging what we can as a society from the disaster that has befallen us with the fascist renaissance, either through activism, a committed underground, or both. My son is an environmental engineer who keeps me abreast of the harsh technical realities that face us, If you have an online newsletter you can forward, I'd love to sign up. Here in California we may be able to blunt some of the damage done by the dunce king and his profit motive driven minions, but my concern is that our country will fracture into a de facto unarmed civil war over ideology in the next decade. If it does, we may find ourselves with two coasts of one thought and a broad breadbasket no man's land, resembling nothing so much as a 'B' movie about post Apocalyptic matters. Maybe we can set things straight, but the current seems to be strong and against us. As the Nazi nightmare unfolds on 24 hour news, one wonders when it will degrade to become who has the most water and and guns.

Frank, thank you for your comment. Although I see where you're coming from, my viewpoint remains more optimistic than yours. I don't believe that I could carry on with this organization if I didn't have a fair amount of hope.
